The Roland Burris Controversy
Roland Burris, a former Illinois attorney general, is poised to take the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama. He was picked by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to fill the seat, but Senate Democrats had refused to seat him, saying they would not accept any Blagojevich appointee and that he was not properly credentialed. Blagojevich has been arrested and charged with influence peddling. Yet Burris would be the only African American in the Senate. Trotter Group members weighed in before Senate Democrats relented and reversed position.
